Packaging boiled peanuts for gift giving?

by Jill

I'm traveling from my home state of Georgia to my Dad's home state of South Dakota, and I would like to take my family some southern style boiled peanuts as gifts. What is the best way to package boiled peanuts for gifts?

Thanks,
Jill

How to keep Boiled Peanuts safe while Traveling.

Jill,

What a great idea to bring boiled peanuts across the states as a gift for your dad. If you are traveling the best way to carry boiled peanuts is frozen. I have shipped peanuts frozen in 2 plastic bags and wrapped with aluminum foil. With packing materials, that creates a minimal cooler effect. Since it is summer time with possibly hotter days ahead, as long as you freeze them and keep them on ice you will be fine. Any sealable container would be fine for that.

As for serving them hot again, no problem. Just think of them as leftovers. They can be thawed on the counter and reheated in the microwave. The best results come from putting an amount you want to eat in a pot and covering with water. Heat the water to a boil for 10-15 minutes. This will 'wake' the peanuts back up and any moisture lost in transporting will be replaced. The great thing about doing this is you can add more seasonings or salt too.
