Soaking dried peanuts before boiling

Would it help to soak the dried peanuts in water overnight before cooking - like dried beans?

I appreciate the explanation of what happens when during the cooking. It helps me to understand the process. I have seen recipes that say to cook for 30 minutes, and I felt like I was doing something wrong because mine weren't done in 2 hours, and weren't salty. Then one day I left them in the pot for a while, and they were VERY salty. I am looking forward to trying your method.

I usually use Old Bay Seasoning, and cayenne (I like them spicy), but I am going to try some hickory smoke seasoning, and the smoked paprika.

Soaking?

How many pounds are you planning on cooking at a time? Using a stove or burner? It works best if you put weight on them, and keep them under the water at all times. Never put salt in them until they have completely cooked. Or they will never finish cooking. I cook around 600# weekly and I never soak them anymore. It may save a little time but putting the propane and keeping them under water does it. It takes about 8-10 hours to cook. Maybe this will help.
